Description

Remaining locally...On Valentines Day, 1994, General Motors introduced the return of the American muscle car. They used the Chevrolet “9C1” Special Police Package, full-size sedan as the base and built a limited production run of these cars, naming them “Impala SS.” One enthusiast magazine description at the time accurately described the “SS” as a good-looking, good-handling, modern muscle car.” Performance came from a modified “LT-1” engine with a high-capacity, reverse-flow cooling system, automatic transmission with transmission cooler and a limited slip differential; handling was enhanced with a special 1” inch-lowered sport-tuned suspension, reinforced shocks and springs, larger 4-wheel ABS power-disc brakes (again from an LT-1) and 17” brushed aluminum wheels. On the interior, leather was used on all seating surfaces with an embroidered “SS” logo, a center console with cup holders was provided and, of course, the car is equipped with twin airbags, factory air conditioning, cruise control, electric: windows, seats, locks, mirrors, antenna, trunk lid release, and rear window defogger, factory AM-FM/CD stereo system, lighted passenger vanity mirror, etc. These cars were offered only in black for some time, but, later in the run, Dark Cherry Red and Green were also offered as body colors. Our car was ordered new by a Waverly, Iowa man who had owned muscle cars in the 1960’s and made the natural progression to the “SS” 30 years later. On August 14, 1995, he received the car in beautiful Dark Cherry Red with light grey leather and drove it sparingly for 17 years before selling the car to us. The car has literally never seen a drop of rain or,of course, a spot of paintwork or damage; the only owner and driver of the car has preserved it perfectly for its second owner. The original owner’s manual ( with pre-delivery inspection report) is still wrapped in factory plastic and the car literally cannot be distinguished from new.
