The 1953 Corvette was a radical departure for an American car company. Built completely in fiberglass to gain a weight advantage and to avoid any rust issues, it was a true 2-seater sports car incorporating new space-age design cues. Its triple side-draft carburetors and dual exhaust gave its 150 horsepower “Blue Flame Six” engine good performance, a great sound and all models were fitted with an automatic transmission with floor shift. In 1954, the car kept the same exact body with a few minor cosmetic improvements to interior trim, exhaust outlets, etc. and a slight increase in horsepower. 3,640 of the new 1954 models were built and were priced higher than a new Cadillac or Jaguar. Ours is finished in Polo White with red interior and tan canvas convertible top with matching side curtains. It was owned for the past 30 years by a local collector, was repainted in its original color when first purchased by him and has been driven sparingly since. The trunk carpet, lamp lenses, hub caps, etc. are all original to the car as confirmed by their part numbers. The car’s three carburetors have just been fully rebuilt and the car drives exceptionally well.
