1954 ALFA ROMEO 1900 SUPERLEGGERA TOURING COUPE. #01793.
(Stock #4338.) Alfa Romeo has a rich, interesting, and legendary history with their first cars being built in 1910, and their first Targa Florio race being won in 1923, winning second and third place. In 1924, Alfa Romeo introduced the famed “P2”, which won Alfa Romeo’s first World Championship, also winning the second through fifth places in the race, becoming one of the most successful race cars of the 1920’s. The 1928 Mille Miglia saw that strenuous 1,000 mile race being won by the new 6C1500 Alfa. Following the end of World War II, Alfa recovered with a fabulous line-up of luxury and competition cars. The 1900 Series, introduced in 1950, was the first Alfa Romeo to be offered with left-hand (American-side) steering. Built with the new 1900 cc, 4-cylinder engine and a 5-speed manual transmission, the car was an important step forward for the quality and performance automaker, and had an independent suspension all around and was very well received. Our car is a very correct example – fully eligible for the current Mille Miglia and, in fact, participated in the 1987 event. The Mille Miglia remains a very demanding competition and driving this beautiful Alfa Romeo there could be the motoring event of an enthusiast’s lifetime. Our car has been in a local collection for many years and is finished in burgundy with a tan and brown interior and fitted with 16” “knock-off” wire wheels. The car is in excellent condition throughout and driving it brings to mind the illustrious history of Alfa Romeo. It is being offered for the first time in ages and is accompanied by volumes of records and provenance. SOLD!
