1955 OLDSMOBILE "98" HOLIDAY 2- DOOR HARDTOP
#TLR50859. (Stock #4421.)
Ransom E. Olds sold his first Oldsmobile in 1897 and sold the ever- growing company to General Motors in 1908. Oldsmobile built some spectacular and innovative cars over the years, and, in 1952, came out with the flagship of the line-the "98"-- in 1952. The "98" designation was to stay with Oldsmobile until 1998. 1954, 55 and '56 were the 4th generation of the "98" and the Holiday Coupe was the one to have. The 98 offered extra length, luxury and power than other members of the line-up. Its "Rocket V-8" engine was loved by hot-rodders everywhere and was very popular for use in all sorts of race cars. Oldsmobile itself had serious racing victories including the Carrera Panamera. Oldsmobile also offered luxury in its cars which, with the top-of-the-line 98 Series, almost rivalled Cadillac. Our car came to us from a serious local collection which has included Pebble Beach winning classics as well as a wide variety of very special, mostly American classics. He had purchased the from the widow of a true Oldsmobile fan who had the car repainted in its original colors of Coral and Cream. Our local collector then went through the car mechanically, installing a complete new braking system, new dual exhaust system, (5) new tires, replaced the generator with a new alternator, a new battery and an electronic ignition, an accessory electric fuel pump, etc. In short, he prepared the car to tour anywhere. The interior is original and gorgeous, and the car is ready to tour, show or just enjoy. Odometer reading: 13,212. $34,900.
