    Description

    1971 TRIUMPH TR-6 CONVERTIBLE. #CC66623L.

(Stock #4363.) The Triumph Motorcar Company traces its roots back to 1885 with the production of bicycles in Coventry, England. In 1923, they produced their first automobile, the “10/20” which was succeeded by the “Super 7” in 1927. The latter established Triumph as a serious car manufacturer and they built many exciting models throughout the 1930’s and 1940’s. In the 1950’s, the Triumph “TR-2” was introduced and was the beginning of the very successful run of the “TR” Series. In 1969, and still in Coventry, Triumph introduced the TR-6 with a 2.5 litre, twin carburetor, 6-cylinder engine. Producing 105 horsepower, the TR-6 was capable of a speed of 120 miles per hour and was a very handsome sports car with its body designed by the German firm, Karmann. The car was fitted with a 4-speed synchromesh transmission, power-assisted brakes with front discs, 4-wheel independent suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, independent rear suspension (IRS) and was offered with an optional detachable steel hard top. Our car is additionally fitted with an original overdrive transmission and has had a twin S.U. carburetor conversion to the original engine and a 4-outlet exhaust system added. It is finished in unique “Damson Red” (Burgundy, Paint Code 17) which appears original and has faded very uniformly. The car drives wonderfully and would be fabulous for someone to use on a regular basis or as a weekend getaway car with nice (also probably original) tan interior (Trim Code 33). It is the third very neat car which we have been lucky to get from the same local family. 71,854 miles.
