Fiat has been building interesting automobiles in Turin, Italy since 1899. Many of the models built prior to World War II were magnificent classics designed by some of the world's preeminent coachbuilders. One of those often used by Fiat, Ferrari and other world-class automobile companies, is Pininfarina. In 1964, Ferrari introduced the fabulous Pininfarina-designed and wonderful 275 GTS Spider. Two years later, Fiat introduced the timeless 124 Spider with a very similar design by Pininfarina. Powered by a 1.4 litre 4-cylinder engine with a 4-speed manual transmission, the 124 Spider became an instant success and the design, as that of the 275 GTS, looks fresh and handsome today. The 124 underwent many improvements over the years but the fabulous Pf design remained the same. In 1979, displacement of the twin cam, 4-cylinder engine was increased to 2 liters. With that and the upgraded 5-speed manual transmission, the convertible, now called the 124 Sport Spider, was now capable of cruising at highway speeds and improved acceleration and handling while offering great looks and a relatively high degree of interior comfort. In June, 2019, one of our long-time customers purchased an original 2 litre, 124 Super Spider then with 66,400 miles. He has kept the car in his collection for 6 years, driving it an additional 3,500 miles during that time.
