1992 MERCEDES-BENZ 500 SL COUPE/ROADSTER. #WDBFA66E3NF039990.
(Stock #4390.) In late 1989, Mercedes-Benz introduced an entirely new, very advanced and expensive sports car for 1990, the “500SL”. At a cost of @$100,000 (in 1992 dollars), the anxious public could have a powerful, comfortable, and exclusive 2-seater convertible with both an automatically operated convertible top (the first for Mercedes-Benz) and a beautifully designed aluminum detachable hardtop. The 5-litre, V-8 engine propelled the very solid 2-ton sports-touring car from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds and provided a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph. A local (Bernardsville) man ordered one of these in 1991, taking delivery of a 1992 model on October 8, 1991. He ordered the car in unusual and beautiful Spruce Green with parchment leather and treated the car exceptionally well, driving it fewer than 38,000 miles in his 27 years of ownership. We sold the car to a 40+ year local Stable customer, who drove the car fewer than 800 miles within the 2 years he owned the 500SL. The car was again sold by us to another local (Watchung) customer, who enjoyed the vehicle for 4 years as a fair-weather week-end, driver and now, the car is back for a third time. With an amazing array of standard safety and comfort features, this car was additionally ordered with heated seats (also electrically operated and with memory) and factory telephone. The factory 16” alloy wheels are wearing high-speed Pirelli P-600 tires and the spare has never been used. All original manuals have been saved with the car as well as the factory tool kit. A mobile rack for the hard top as well as fitted covers for both the car and the hardtop are present. 50,365 miles. $23,500.
