2002 LOTUS TURBO ESPRIT. #SCCDC08212HA10427.
(Stock #4366.) The twin-turbo Esprit was the last rendition of a long line of Esprits with the first introduced in 1975 at the Paris Auto Show. As with all of the early Lotus cars, they were powered by a 4-cylinder engine and handled as if they were on rails. Colin Chapman built them to be very successful on race tracks around the world and, over time, they developed into a true supercar. By 2002, for the “Anniversary Edition,” they were powered by a twin turbo-charged V-8 engine and had a 0-60 miles per hour acceleration time of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 175 mph. Ours is number 85 of just 158 made in 2002 with 100 being shipped to the United States. It is the fourth and final series of the Esprit with a refresh penned by Julian Thomson. Ours is finished in original “Storm Titanium Metallic” with black leather. Exterior changes included a smaller rear spoiler placed halfway up the rear deck-lid, revised front and rear bumpers, side skirts and valence panels. New five-spoke alloy wheels were also fitted along with new rectangular tail lights. The S4 was the first Esprit to use power steering. The most obvious external change to the S4 was the addition of a rear wing. Power comes from the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine through a 5-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. Our car has traveled fewer than 10,000 miles and has been maintained in near-new condition throughout. The car was sold new to an early Microsoft guy who serviced his new toy with us. We purchased the car from him in 2005, then with @4,500 miles and sold it to a local (Far Hills) collector who drove the car another 4,500 miles prior to trading it in to us on a Ferrari California Spider. It is a completely original, never-damaged car with a timing belt service performed in September, 2014 and again in September, 2023. The total mileage on the car is currently 9,542 miles. $110,000.
