1949 PACKARD “EIGHT” SEDAN #H22170223925117.
(Stock #4004.) The “Eight” was introduced in 1928 by one of the most prestigious automobile brands of the early 20th century. Packard built luxurious and sporting cars of great significance right up until 1941. Prior to the Great Depression, the “3 P’s”— Peerless, Packard and Pierce Arrow, were prominent American luxury car manufactures. When the depression hit, only Packard would survive and had continuous production right up until 1942 when automobile manufacturing stopped and Packard completely switched its facilities to the wartime production of airplane and tank engines. Following the war, Packard built a new state-of-the-art production facility and introduced a new and more economically reasonable model featuring a completely new chassis, body and driveline – the “Clipper Six”. Following that came the 22nd Series Packard “Eight”. Our car is one of the 22nd Series cars, powered by its original 288 cubic inch, 5 main bearing, straight eight engine with solid lifters and a Carter 2-barrel carburetor accompanied by a 3-speed manual transmission. The car was repainted years ago in its original “Grenadier Maroon” color and still has its 75-year-old, completely original and very worn tan broadcloth interior. The car has a very solid body, with its large chrome pieces being in excellent condition and it sports original-width wide whitewall tires. It has been completely mechanically serviced and drives amazingly well. Odometer reading: 29,507. $17,000.
