In 1962, Studebaker introduced an entirely car, which with an innovative aeronautical design by a design team under the direction of Raymond Loewy, produced a sensation in the automotive world. Using the engine which Studebaker installed in their fabulous “Hawk” automobiles, their versatile and powerful 289 cubic inch V-8 , with either a stick or an automatic transmission and featuring innovative, at the time, front disc brakes, the car set 29 world speed records. It wss presented as being a powerful, 4-seater, performance luxury car when it was introduced at the New York Auto Show on April 29, 1963. 1200 of the 1963 Avantis were built and this one must be the finest one available anywhere. It was purchased on March 28, 1991 and subjected to a total, body-off-chassis restoration to exact factory specifications with every piece of the car now at least as nice as new. It has won an AACA Senior Grand National Award 4 times, a First Place Award at The Radnor Hunt and numerous other impressive awards.
