1974 MG B. #GHN5UE352015G.
(Stock #4361.) Following the MGA roadster of 1956 to 1962, an entirely new model was introduced by MG in 1962 and proved to be enormously popular and successful. The MGB was powered by a familiar-looking 4-cylinder engine, but the “B”’s twin carburetor engine displacement was now raised to 1798 cc with horsepower now up to 95. Accordingly, this was now a 100 mile-per-hour car with greatly improved acceleration and comfortable to be driven at any highway speeds. The new rack-and-pinion steering was a huge improvement in handling and the front disc brakes were a big step forward in safety and performance. Our car was built in June of 1974, so was one of the last examples to be built with chrome bumpers–before the huge rubber bras were fitted to the cars and the cars were raised to meet new height standards in the 1975 models. Owned by one local (Warren) family for the past 29 years, the car was treated as royalty, as evidenced by its hand-written service history spanning that entire time. When not being taken on sunny afternoon drives or driven to shows, the car was pampered in its garage at home and received constant attention between events. It was repainted once in its original, beautiful and very rare color of “Mirage”--an off-white with a slight hint of blue–and has its original and beautifully preserved black interior with matching convertible top and original styled wheels, wearing Michelin “XZX” performance tires. The car is still fitted with its original AM-FM radio, 7000 rpm tachometer (5900 rpm redline), and twin door-mounted chrome outside rear view mirrors. This car is sure to be a favorite at English and MG Club rallies, events and shows as well as on the open road. 94,682 miles. $19,500.
