In 1972, the “107” body style luxury/sports car Mercedes-Benz roadster was introduced, using the manufacturer’s first V-8 engine in the 350SL. In 1981, the 380SL was introduced in the same body style with a fuel-injected 3.8 litre, twin cam engine with a 4-speed automatic engine, now responsible for a top speed of 127 miles per hour – much higher than the previous 6-cylinder “111” style roadsters. In 1984, the 380SL was improved to twin timing chains. The new car was equipped with climate control, cruise control, electric windows and locks, 4-wheel dower disc brakes, twin remote outside rear view mirrors, factory fog lamps, a hidden convertible top and a detachable hard top. Our car spent its first 19 years and 95,000 miles with just one owner in St. Petersburg, Florida before being purchased by its second owner, a local enthusiast who drove it as a week-end car, adding just @5,000 miles in the next 22 years.
