The thought of a modern chassis and driveline being a platform for a pick-up truck-looking body, paying homage to the Chevy pick-ups of the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, was a novel and very interesting concept of Wayne Cherry, vice president of General Motors and head of the GM Design Center. The engine and 6-speed were appropriated from the Corvette “C6” and were responsible for a 0-60 mile-per- hour acceleration time of 5.29 seconds. Ours is 1 of just 1,200 of these built with the 400 horsepower LS2 Corvette engine and 6-speed transmission options. To handle the power, the SSR is also equipped with traction control and 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes and electronic brakeforce distribution.
