1950 JAGUAR MK V 3-POSITION DROPHEAD
(Stock #3838.) (Chassis #G47142). (Engine #Z2088). Often mistaken for a pre-war design, the MK IV and MK V Jaguars have the amazingly elegant design of the 1930’s. Since production of the English cars ceased during the WW II years, that design was carried on for several years following the war as new, more rounded designs were developed. A total of just 972 MK V convertibles were built. They were offered with two engine choices—the 2.5 litre engine, popular in England and the more powerful 3.5 litre unit which Americans seemed to favor, and were offered in either right-hand or left-hand drive. This car, delivered new in the U.S. with left-hand steering, was fitted with the 3.5 litre unit so is a rare beast. With that engine and the 4-speed manual transmission, the car was well-suited to driving on American roads. This car is beautifully finished in midnight blue with cognac leather, fabulous burl walnut facia and interior trim and a dark blue convertible top with chrome landau irons. It came to us following its restoration in California and is absolutely gorgeous. It has a comprehensive tool kit fitted to its boot lid and is accompanied by an original owner’s manual. SOLD!
