1958 CHEVROLET IMPALA BIG-BLOCK/TRI-POWER
CONVERTIBLE #F58S271883. (Stock #3988)
In 1958, General Motors introduced a completely newly designed
line-up, including a completely new model, the top-of-the-line
Impala. Only available as a sport coupe or a convertible, the Impala
featured long sweeping body lines and a unique taillight design with
three lenses on each side. The new Impala badge was prominently
featured incorporating the famous crossed checkered flags. This
emblem was also presented on the new 2-spoke steering wheel. The
seats and door panels were also new in the Impala and, with their
anodized aluminum inserts, were striking in appearance. Chevrolet
had introduced the V-8 engine in the 1955 models and the new
Impala could be ordered with a 6-cylinder engine, the 283 cubic inch
“small block” V-8 engine or the powerful new 348 cubic inch “big
block” engine. For those buyers interested in having their new
Impala having the power which the strikingly-designed body seemed
to promise, the big block 348 could be ordered with solid lifters and
“three deuces”--three 2-barrel carburetors--which boosted the
engine’s output to a most impressive 350 horsepower. Our car is
one of those most desirable high-output, big-block cars and is also
equipped with factory air conditioning, Powerglide automatic
transmission, power steering, power brakes, rear fender skirts,
electric convertible top, twin outside rear view mirrors, twin rear
antennae, “spinner” hubcaps with the crossed flag emblem and the
original AM radio with a modern remote-controlled and hidden
stereo. It is the result of a body-off chassis restoration and is
fabulous in turquoise with white convertible top and boot and a
matching 2-tone interior. With one local (Bernardsville) owner since
2002, the car has resided with some very impressive mates in a
heated garage since the restoration. During that time, the car has
been sparingly driven just a few thousand miles and has been
serviced in our own service department. 51,061 miles. SOLD!
