1958 MERCEDES-BENZ 190 SEDAN. #1908510167. (Stock #3502.) Following the devastation of Germany during World War II, German automobile companies modernized their facilities and produced new and innovative models. In 1953, the Mercedes-Benz “170” was replaced by their very innovative and first unibody car, the “180”. In 1957, Mercedes-Benz brought out the more powerful 190 (the 52 horsepower engine of the 180 was increased to 80 horsepower in the 190), the more powerful engine, fitted with a 4-speed manual transmission now enabling the new 190 to cruise comfortably on the new Autobahn highway system built following the war. The quite conservative and very pleasant body style of the 180 and 190 was kept without any major changes until the “fintail” was introduced in 1961. Thirty years ago we sold an extremely original 1958 “190” sedan to a local woman – an Olympic Equestrian Medal Winner with excellent taste in both horses and automobiles. Along with this Mercedes-Benz, she also purchased a Ferrari 246 GT Dino, a Series 1 Jaguar XKE coupe, a turquoise Saab Turbo convertible and a matching Mercedes-Benz “SL” convertible. Upon her passing, we have repurchased all of these cars from her estate. The 190 is finished in a lustrous light gray with its original light gray leather, its original “radio delete” dashboard plate and its original twin front fog lamps. The car is in very nice condition, except for its original front leather which shows patina (some might say excessive patina on the driver's seat), and drives very nicely. Just mechanically serviced and with a new stainless steel exhaust system just installed. A very cute and very driveable car with just 95,474 miles. $25,000.
