1961 MGA “1600” ROADSTER #GHNL89532 (Stock #4465.) Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1955 as a completely new and redesigned “envelope” design, true British roadster. The car followed the long-lived MG “T-Series” cars of the ‘30’s,’40’s and early ‘’50’s, culminating with the MGTF (which used the new MGA engine in the older style body in the 1955 model.) The long-awaited sleek MGA was no disappointment, and more than 101,000 units were sold during its 7-year run. The car received many mechanical improvements during its years of production, with the more powerful 1600 cc engine (producing 79.5 horsepower) being installed along with front disc brakes for the late 1959 and later cars. Top speed on the later cars was noted as being 96.1 miles per hour and the cars were raced extensively in the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America), as well as internationally, with considerable success. Our car is the result of a full, body-off-chassis restoration by Abacus Racing in Virginia Beach. The original engine was completely rebuilt fewer than 1`000 miles ago, along with new front and rear brakes, upgraded Austin Healey 60-spoke wire wheels wrapped with new Michelin radial tires and a highly desired Ford Cortina 5-speed manual transmission (bolts right in place) was installed during the process (the original 4-speed transmission is available.) Beautiful Orient Red body and Biscuit leather with black convertible top and side curtains. A fully restored, great driving, extremely handsome MGA, priced at $32,000.
