1976 TRIUMPH TR6. #CF54808U.
(Stock #4336.) The Triumph Motorcar Company traces its roots back to 1885 with the production of bicycles in Coventry, England. In 1923, they produced their first automobile, the “10/20” which was succeeded by the “Super7” in 1927. The latter established Triumph as a serious car manufacturer, and they built many exciting models throughout the 1930’s and 1940’s. In the 1950’s, the Triumph “TR-2” was introduced and was the beginning of the very successful run of the “TR” Series. In 1969 and still in Coventry, Triumph introduced the TR 6 with a 2.5 litre, twin carburetor, 6-cylinder engine. Producing 105 horsepower, the TR6 was capable of a speed of 120 miles per hour and was a very handsome sports car with its body designed by the German firm Karmann. The car was fitted with a 4-speed synchromesh transmission, power-assisted brakes with front discs, 4-wheel independent suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, independent rear suspension (IRS) and was offered with an optional detachable steel hard top. Our car is an absolutely pristine original example finished in original Delft Blue and, built in April 1976, is among the last of the Triumph TR6s which ceased production in July of that year. On July 29, 1976, S & R Lincoln Mercury, Inc., an authorized British Leyland/Fiat/Lancia dealer, located in Rockville Centre, New York, sold this car to its first owner who paid $5,900 according to the accompanying sales invoice. The car was sold with Michelin Redline tires, British Leyland AM/FM/MPX radio and speakers, Amco accessory rubber mats, tonneau cover, “Coralized Finish” and rustproofing. Records indicate the selling dealer installed the trunk-mounted luggage rack after purchase. In July 1979, after three years of ownership, the first owner sold it, with approximately 21,000 miles, to the second New Jersey enthusiast who babied the car for 40 years before he traded the TR6 in the Fall of 2019, then with just under 55,000 miles, for an immaculate Jaguar XKE roadster at The Stable. We then sold the car, still wearing its 1983 Michelin Redline tires, to another local collector/enthusiast. In January 2020, the 40-year-old Michelins were replaced with modern equivalents. The TR6 retains most of its factory-applied lacquer Delft Blue finish (Code 136) and its original interior and vinyl roof with reflective stripes. Also present are the tools, owner’s manuals, books and tonneau cover with which it was delivered as well as all service records since its 1,000 mile service in September 1976. It remains in absolutely stock condition; it has always been sympathetically maintained with strict attention to originality and remains rust-free with no rust repairs. It must be one of the finest original TR6’s available. Current actual mileage is 60,276. $32,000.
