2001 BMW “540i TOURING” ESTATE WAGON #WBADR63481GGN01709. (Stock # 4067.) The “E-39” Series BMW’s (1995-2004) have developed a sort of cult following. In November, 1996, the “Touring” estate wagon was introduced and has since developed even more interest. The 2001 540iT is the fifth generation of the V-8 powered version and leads the group of the wagons; it is difficult to find a nice example. Since these cars go on of 100’s of thousands of miles, it is especially difficult to find a low mileage example. Our car is one of those rare beasts. Sold new to a woman in Harding Township, one of her three residences, the car was kept there and was readied for her visits when they occurred. As a result, the car was dealer-serviced at lower mileage intervals than would normally be expected and kept in fabulous condition throughout. The car is 100% original and finished in the beautiful color of Orient Blue with gorgeous original beige leather. 2001 was the year that the horsepower of the 4.4 litre V-8 engine was increased and our car has the optional “Steptronic” 5-speed transmission with automatic or manual shift modes, and traction control. Other niceties include heated seats with memories, 17” factory wheels, an original phone in the center console, a leather adjustable multi-function steering wheel, roof rails, rear window side curtains and a plethora of other options. Front and side airbags are present and the rear cargo area has a pull-out cover with “patrician net” and a pass through door to the rear seat area. A great combination: a workhorse of an estate wagon with power and performance of a sports car and, with its leather and burl walnut interior, a truly luxurious cabin. Condition, provenance and mileage are exceptional. 34,686 miles.
