This was a convertible with an automatically lowering convertible top as well as a beautiful detachable hard top. Maintaining the reputation of a solid and safe luxury car, the new 500SL weighs-in a just over 2 tons. Giving a nod to the Mercedes-Benz history of building race cars of staggering performance, the 500SL is powered by a 5-litre,fuel-injected V-8 engine which delivers a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph and offers a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 5.9 seconds.
